Does a firm mattress offer the best support?
While many people enjoy a firm mattress, it may not provide the best support for all types of sleepers. If you tend to be a side or back sleeper, you may find a pillow top mattress with a firmer feel provides better support for your natural comfort position. A pillow top mattress will provide additional support to your body’s natural curves without causing pressure points and disrupting your REM sleep cycles.
What is the best mattress to relieve back pain?
There is no one answer to this question. However, the key to relieving back pain is obtaining proper spinal alignment. Rest test a mattress using your natural sleep position to determine the best option for you. Be sure you complete your rest test with a pillow if you normally sleep with one.
Do more coils indicate better quality?
Not necessarily. There are many types of innerspring units available in mattresses today, from promotional to premium or luxury sets. You’ll even find mattresses with no coils. A higher coil count does not indicate a better mattress; it just means the mattress has a higher coil count. Pick the mattress which feels best to you.
Does a firm mattress have to feel hard?
No, the firmness of a mattress comes from the inner support structure of either the innerspring unit or the foam. A hard or soft feel describes the comfort layers on the top of the mattress. A softer mattress can still provide proper spinal alignment to help you sleep better at night; along with a firm, supportive feel.

I already have a box spring/foundation; do I really need a new one?
Today’s mattress sets are designed to be maintenance free, so there’s no turning or flipping. With this design, new mattresses tend to be thicker and heavier than mattresses purchased over 5 - 7 years ago. Older foundations aren’t designed to support newer mattresses. As a result, using an older foundation may void your new mattress’s manufacturer’s warranty.
Does longer warranty indicate a better mattress set?
No it doesn’t. Manufacturer’s defects can occur from time to time, no matter how long the established warranty. The best thing to do is protect your ability to use that warranty 5, 10 or 20 years from now. There are two types of warranties: one is full coverage for the length of the warranty, and the other is full coverage for a specific period of time, and partial coverage for the remainder of the warranty period.
I already have a frame at home, should I purchase a new one?
That depends on the size and type of mattress set you are purchasing. Mattress sets are heavier today than in the past, requiring more support. When purchasing a queen, king, or cal king set, ensure your frame will support your new set down the middle of the mattress. This type of support will also protect your manufacturer’s warranty.
If my manufacturer’s warranty is good for ten years, does that mean I won’t have to buy a mattress set for another ten years?
Not necessarily, in life we experience many physiological changes. We grow older, gain or lose weight, have children, may have accidents or injuries, or our tastes for different comfort levels change. The reasons you purchased your current mattress set might not be the same reasons to sleep on it seven years from now.

Mattresses and foundations are currently built with higher quality materials, upholstery, components, and research and design than ever before. The good news is your new mattress set will get more use on a daily basis as you sleep, than any other piece of furniture you’ll purchase for your home.
How can I protect my manufacturer’s warranty in case I need to use it in the future?
There are three ways you can proactively protect your new mattress set from issues which can void your manufacturer’s warranty. The first is to purchase your new mattress as a set. The mattress and foundation are designed to work together to provide support and durability. The second is to provide the correct center support for your new mattress set, like you find with our Giant’s Best frame. A mattress will sag when proper support is not provided. The third way is to purchase a stain protection plan or product which will protect your mattress set from stains. Stains commonly void manufacturer’s warranties, regardless of the warranty issue.

| Pillow Selection Tips |
Tips for selecting the right pillow for YOU!
- Know what type of pillow you sleep on currently: comfort pillow, contour pillow, high loft, low loft, firm or soft feel, foam, down or natural fibers.
- Always consider trying different pillow styles. There have been advancements in designing new pillows for more comfort and durability.
- Identify your natural comfort position – stomach, side, back or a combination of these three. Remember, the position you fall asleep in may be different than the position you wake up in.
- First choose a pillow which is recommended for your personal sleep style. Try the pillow in each of the comfort positions you sleep in at night.
- Stomach sleepers gravitate towards lower loft and softer pillows to reduce the arch in their lower back.
- Back sleepers gravitate towards firmer pillows with a medium loft to help keep proper spinal alignment.
- Side sleepers gravitate towards a medium feel pillow with a little higher loft to help keep proper postural alignment.
- If a pillow you’re trying isn’t comfortable, proactively step up the pillow display and pick out another pillow.
- If you choose a firmer mattress, you may need a less firm pillow than you have used in the past. If you choose a plusher mattress, you may need a firmer pillow than you have used in the past.
- Consider replacing your pillows at least every three years, if you are using a pillow protector. Every one and a half years if you aren’t using a pillow protector.

If you choose to continue sleeping on your existing pillow, be sure to protect it, along with all of your pillows, by using a pillow protector.

Foundation vs. Boxspring
Foundations and Boxsprings are both designed to support and extend the life of your new bed set. Foundations often provide a firmer feel overall, and are designed to provide a stable base for one sided mattresses. Semi flex foundations work the same way, only they provide a small amount of spring back to the mattress. Boxsprings act as a "shock absorber" for the mattress, providing a greater level of comfort, while allowing more "give" back to your mattress.

Standard
A standard foundation refers to the manufacturer’s normal height foundation. Foundation heights can vary from one manufacturer to the next, but are typically 9" tall.

Low Profile
A low profile foundation provides the same support as a standard foundation but has a shorter height, usually 5" tall. Using a low profile foundation when combined with a taller mattress can bring the total height down to an average mattress set height.

Micro or Bunkie Board
A micro foundation, or Bunkie board, provides support to your mattress with today’s platform and specialty beds which may need additional support across the surface area of the mattress. A micro foundation is typically 2" tall.

Split
Split foundations are commonly used for full or queen sized beds when the foundation must be moved through narrow hallways and tricky doorways. This tends to be a problem in older buildings and homes.
